Diabetes - Type 1, 2 & Gestational

Type 1 & 2 Diabetes

The Dietitians and Exercise Physiologists at AEP work collaboratively to assist those with either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes to make healthy lifestyle changes through modification of diet and personalised exercise programs.

An Accredited Practising Dietitian will educate you on the dietary management of diabetes enabling you to control your blood sugar levels through adjustments to your current diet. You will develop skills in carbohydrate counting and label reading as well as learning about the Glycaemic Index of foods.

Small changes can have a positive impact on your health and long term adherence to a healthy diet and exercise program can slow and sometimes halt the progression of diabetes and prevent the need for medication.

All advice provided to you is based on the best practice recommendations for diabetes management (Dietitians Association of Australia and Exercise Sports Science Australia) and personalised to suit your lifestyle.

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational diabetes is usually managed by following a healthy well-balanced eating plan in conjunction with exercise. The Dietitians at AEP can educate you on a healthy diet for gestational diabetes to prevent the need for medication or insulin and to help prevent any related complications during your pregnancy.

We will provide you with an in-depth understanding of the management of your blood sugar levels through adjustments to your current diet.
