New Australian Food Pyramid

It’s been a couple of weeks now since Nutrition Australia has released the new Australian Food Pyramid and there’s plenty of hype. Comments ranging from health professionals to the general public to politicians!

Here is the basic breakdown of AGHE.jpgthe new pyramid. It is basically the same information as the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating which was revised and released in 2013; however the food pyramid provides an alternate representation of this dietary information and just another fun way of looking at what a good healthy diet should be made up of.

Some health professionals have suggested that it will confuse the public having two sets of guidelines and pictorial representation as we have the AGHE plate (pictured right) and the New Food Pyramid (pictured below). But here at AEP we think that it looks great and promotes all the right food messages:

  • Limit salt and added sugar.
  • Choose healthy fats such as olive oil and avocado.
  • Choose lean cuts of meat/poultry.
  • Enjoy a variety of wholegrains.
  • Eat a wide variety of vegetables and plenty of them.
  • Choose water as your main drink of choice.
