Reuben-IndividualReuben Vanderzalm, Accredited Exercise Physiologist / Director

Reuben is one of the two directors at AEP, of which was established in 2006. He has over 10 years’ experience as an exercise physiologist in a variety of clinical settings including the Royal Adelaide Hospital’s Centre for Physical Activity in Ageing, numerous GP clinics and private practice.
Reuben actively maintains links with Adelaide’s Medicare Locals and attends regular conferences and workshops both interstate and locally to ensure AEP services and practices are of the highest professional standard.
Reuben enjoys the variety of assisting patients suffering from any one or combination of chronic conditions. He has worked extensively with patients in the areas of obesity and mental health, and has an interest in diabetes prevention and management.

Chris is one of the directors of AEP Health Group with over 16 years experience as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist. Commencing his career in 1996 at RAH’s Centre for Physical Activity in Aging, he was responsible for cardiac and stroke rehabilitation programs until 2006 when he established AEP Health Group with Reuben Vanderzalm. Chris has extensive knowledge in exercise therapy as a mode of treatment for patients suffering from various chronic conditions, functional assessments and musculoskeletal injuries.
Chris leads AEP Health Group Workhealth division with particular interest in health assessments and rehabilitation following work related injuries and work hardening programs. Chris has also worked extensively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons in the establishment of health and lifestyles programs. Chris was nominated in 2011 for recognition of a non-Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, for his contribution to the community.

Sara has been working in chronic disease management since completing university in 2006 and has developed a wealth of experience in many clinical conditions. Sara has a passion for helping people especially in areas of weight loss and bariatric surgery. Her other speciality areas include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, osteoarthritis (OA) and joint replacement rehabilitation. Sara is a qualified lungs in action instructor and developed AEP’s pulmonary rehabilitation program.

Skye has been working at AEP since 2008. She has had extensive experience working with a wide variety of clients with chronic health conditions. Skye has experience working in GP clinics, home and private consulting environment. Skye’s friendly and understanding nature allows her to communicate effectively with a wide variety of cliental. As well as helping others, she has a keen interest in maintaining her own health and fitness. She has represented Australia in the Age Group World Triathlon Championships in 2009 and again in 2012. Skye co-manages the Noarlunga Clinic.
Clinically, Skye has a keen interest in chronic fatigue management, exercise pre and post bariatric surgery, Type II Diabetic management and exercise prescription to assist couples in the area of fertility and pregnancy.

Thomas has been employed with AEP since May 2009. Prior to this he completed clinical training at the Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre where he gained experience with patients with multiple chronic diseases and co-morbidities.

Predominantly working from the Woodville clinic Thomas regularly consults with new patients to educate them on the importance of regular structured activity and the impact this has on improving one’s health. With a broad experience in multiple co-morbidities, patients can be assured that a tailored exercise plan can be developed for use in clinic or at home.

Thomas specialises in areas of diabetes management and prevention, musculoskeletal assessment and ongoing rehabilitation. He has a keen interest in assisting patients with weight management and as such has co developed AEP’s medically based weight loss service.

Caelum-Individual-ST-MARYS-32Caelum Schild, Accredited Exercise Physiologist

Caelum has been working at AEP Health Group since the beginning of 2010. Over this period of time he has gained a broad range of clinical experience from the Royal Adelaide Hospital, GP clinics and private practice. His friendly and positive nature are strengths when educating patients about exercise and their health.
Caelum manages AEP’s St. Mary’s clinic, where he consults and facilitates supervised group sessions on a daily basis for patients with numerous chronic conditions. He is also a Program Director of The Wellness Assistant, an innovate online solution to improve employee health and the outcomes of company health initiatives.
Clinically, Caelum has worked extensively with patients in the areas of type 2 diabetes, musculoskeletal rehabilitation and cancer rehabilitation. He has a special interest in weight management, cardio-metabolic conditions, dysautonomia and has co developed AEP’s medically based weight loss service.

Keith has been employed with AEP since May 2011. Prior to this he completed clinical training as an Exercise Therapist where he gained experience assisting patients with multiple chronic diseases and co-morbidities in both a gym and hydrotherapy environment.

Keith is the co-manager of the Noarlunga clinic and regularly consults with new patients to educate them on the importance of regular structured activity and the impact this has on improving one’s health. He has broad experience working with patients who have multiple co-morbidities, establishing tailored exercise plans that can be developed for use at home or in a clinical setting.

Keith has a special interest in workplace rehabilitation, aboriginal health, pre and post bariatric surgery consultations and sports specific testing and prescription for athletes.

Stephanie-Individual-NORLUNGA-06Stephanie Gordon, Accredited Exercise Physiologist

Steph started working at AEP in September 2012. Since then she has gained experience working with people with a range of different health conditions and ailments in both a clinic and home based setting. She undertook post graduate studies at The University of Notre Dame where she worked closely with some of Australia’s top exercise physiologists gaining extensive knowledge in pre and post-operative orthopaedic patients including hip and knee replacements. She has also worked as a heart technician where she attained widespread knowledge in all cardiac related conditions and the role that exercise plays in the management of them. Steph is an advocate of implementing exercise into daily living activities and making it enjoyable.
Steph specialises in the management of cardiac related health conditions. She has developed AEPs cardiac rehabilitation program and maintains close links with referring cardiologists and nurses. She also has an interest in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and exercise for neuromuscular disorders.

Alice started with AEP in 2013. Alice has a unique skill set with previous employment as both an exercise physiologist and in vocational rehabilitation as a case manager. She approaches all clients with a smile and with a passion for teaching, finds enjoyment in providing each individual with the quality skills and knowledge required to create an understanding as to ‘how’ and ‘why’ an exercise is prescribed, giving relevance and importance to their exercise program. Alice provides treatment with a holistic attitude and aspires to implement SMART goals to achieve results.
Alice has special interest in treating patients with chronic conditions, assisting athletes in strength and conditioning for peak performance and in vocational rehabilitation, assisting those injured at work with their recovery.

Adam began working at AEP in 2014. He has completed his studies in Clinical Exercise Physiology where he specialised in Multiple Sclerosis rehabilitation and in Strength and Conditioning where he has developed a vast knowledge of exercise prescription in a variety of clientele from athletes to the elderly. Also currently working at the Central District Football Club as the conditioning coach he has experience in injury prevention and rehabilitation.
With a unique skill set AEP regard Adam as their "all-rounder". He enjoys working with patients suffering chronic conditions while also has a special interest and passion for sports testing and athlete conditioning. He is a friendly and positive individual who is passionate about helping others achieve their goals and to optimise quality of life.

Crista started working at AEP in 2014 after completing her studies at the University of Tasmania. She has worked predominantly with the elderly population and frail clients who with multiple chronic health conditions in both the home and clinical setting. Crista enjoys helping clients regain their independence and improve their quality of life through exercise and healthy eating.
Crista has a special interested in weight loss / management and motivating people to become active for disease prevention, improved quality of life and long term good health.

Sam has been employed at AEP Health Group since the beginning of 2016. Prior to this, working as an Exercise Scientist, Sam gained experience working with a number of clients of a range of fitness levels and goals.

Sam has a special interest in treating patients with chronic pain, workplace injuries and cancer rehabilitation. Outside of AEP, Sam also coaches Powerlifting and has a great interest in strength and conditioning.

David began with AEP at the beginning of 2016, after completing his studies at the University of South Australia. He has gained clinical experience with a range of chronic and complex conditions through extensive practical placements in both private and public settings, as well as his previous role as strength and conditioning/rehabilitation coach for the Glenelg Football Club.

David has a keen interest in musculoskeletal and neuromuscular rehabilitation, the adaptability to work with a diverse range of clientele, and the belief that injury prevention and management through corrective movement patterns is imperative to overall musculoskeletal health, maintaining independence and improving quality of life.

Grace started with AEP at the beginning of 2017 after being a stand-out during her 3 month placement with AEP in 2016.

During Grace’s clinical placements she has gained experience working with a range of clients from private and public clinics, aged care facilities and The Royal Adelaide Hospital. Grace enjoys empowering her clients by providing them with practical exercise guidance and knowledge, to improve their quality of life, maintain independence, and continue suitable exercise habits in the long-term.

Grace has a special interest in tailoring exercise to individuals with musculoskeletal and metabolic chronic conditions, as well as the ability to work with clients presenting with diverse medical backgrounds.

Dietitians

Lauren started working at AEP in 2015. She has experience working within a clinical environment as well as in private practice. She is a strong advocate of person centred care, developing individualised dietary care plans and motivating lifestyle change to promote overall health and wellbeing among her clients.

Lauren is experienced in the prevention of chronic disease through dietary strategies with a particular interest in the areas of diabetes and obesity. She specialises in the dietary management of those undergoing weight loss surgery through motivational counselling techniques and the development of nutrition care plans based on the individual needs of the client.

Lauren has completed her accreditation in Sports Nutrition and is a registered sports dietitian with Sports Dietitians Australia. She has experience and understanding in the areas of nutrition for training and recovery, protein requirements for athletes, strength and resistance, nutrition for endurance, hydration, supplements and team sports

Matt started working at AEP in 2016. He has experience working in a clinical and private practice environment. In addition, Matt has several years experience in clinical research in intensive care at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Matt is strong advocate for individualised dietary lifestyle changes to improve overall health and wellbeing with sustained weight loss rather than fad diets. Matt has a particular interest in obesity and weight management, diet control of diabetes and weight maintenance in cancer patients.

Matt has completed his accreditation in Sports Nutrition at the Australian Institute of Sport and is an Accredited Sports Dietitian with Sports Dietitians Australia. Matt is currently the Sports Dietitian for the Adelaide United Youth team providing individual nutrition performance advice in addition to recommendations for team game day and training nutrition. Matt also provides sports nutrition advice to Central Districts Football Club in the team and individual setting and has previously worked with the Adelaide Crows. Matt has experience in nutrition and hydration for before, during and after exercise with a particular interest in endurance sports and team sports. Matt also has experience in providing sports nutrition education sessions to amateur sporting teams and clubs.

Matt continues to further his skills and knowledge in the area of nutrition and dietetics through involvement in the DAA continued professional development program.

Physiotherapists

Jarryd completed his Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia in 2009. He has since worked as a Sports and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist, in Private Practice for 6 years at Semaphore Road Physio and began working at AEP in 2016.

During this time Jarryd worked with various sporting teams such as the Port Adelaide Cricket Club, Port Adelaide Hockey Club and the Flinders Park Football Club. Most notable was the work he performed for the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) in 2010 while working with the Kayaking program in the lead up to the 2012 Olympics. He also worked with many elderly and chronic pain sufferers in Semaphore and the surrounding community.

David completed his Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia in 2014. For the first two years after graduating he has worked in hospital, aged care, and private musculoskeletal practice settings in the Riverland. Working in such a diverse setting has given him a great understanding of a vast range of clinical presentations in all age-groups.

Starting in 2017 at AEP, David is keen to see people of any health status reach their full function by reducing pain and facilitating movement with his wide range of treatment methods. David has trained extensively in Mulligan Concept in Western Australia – a functional movement based therapy, is a qualified Dry Needling practitioner, and has undertaken further training in running and foot biomechanics in New Zealand.

Out of the clinic room David pursues time outside in nature, enjoying rock-climbing and bouldering, hiking and camping, photography, motorsport, music and being involved in his local church. Most of all he enjoys the art of conversation, getting to know people and ensuring their treatment is both helpful and enjoyable.

Karen has been with AEP since 2011. With a previous 12 years administration experience in numerous allied health professional settings, Karen’s skill set lends itself perfectly to AEP’s “behind the scene” matters. Karen is the office manager and plays an important role in developing administrative procedures to ensure AEP’s business systems are effective, efficient and most importantly up to date with an ever evolving health system.

Maria is one of the friendly reception staff that looks after the day to day runnings at AEP. Maria is often a clients first contact with AEP, and is only too willing to assist and answer any questions.

 

Tanya-IndividualTanya Martens - Reception

Tanya is another member of the AEP administration team who is only more than happy to asssit with bookings or enquiries. Besides the day to day operations of making appointments and dealing with enquiries, Tanya manages AEP's patient waiting lists.
